Construction Supervision of a Multipurpose Wharf in the Port of Montevideo

The National Port Administration of Uruguay (ANP) has entrusted Prointec to carry out the construction supervision of "Wharf C", Multipurpose, in the Port of Montevideo.

The new "Wharf C", located on the Port's Dock II, comprises a platform of 370 meters in length and 33 meters in width; an associated esplanade of approximately 33,000 m2 and the necessary auxiliary facilities for the adequate wharf operation.

This infrastructure provides operational efficiency to the Port of Montevideo, as it meets the demand of nowadays large containerships. The new wharf, with a depth of 14 meters, will enable vessels over 300 m in length to berth, as well as moving at full load up to 100,000 tons.

The wharf platform, of 370 meters, disposes of a berthing extension of 330 meters and is supported on 252 piles of a meter in diameter of reinforced concrete and average lengths of 30 meters.

The associated esplanade, filling area reclaimed from the sea, ends up in a roller compacted concrete pavement and includes the construction of an electrical substation.

The execution of works has led to dredging over two million m3 of material to improve the depth of the dock, as well as some reference documents on material dredging.

During the execution process of the infrastructure, developed for the past three years, Prointec has carried out construction supervision works, both during the design phase and the construction phase. To that end, the company has carried out follow-up and monitoring functions, as well as the legal, technical, environmental and financial revision and control to ensure the proper development of the wharf, according to the requirements indicated by the ANP.
