Review, validation and complementation of the final design, and technical and environmental supervision of construction.
The project undertaken by Prointec involved supervision of works to upgrade the existing road and construction of a new road, parallel to the first, concluding in a 203 km motorway with four lanes, two in each direction, which has been named Doble Vía La Paz – Oruro.
The Doble Vía La Paz – Oruro motorway is part of Ruta Fundamental No.1, one of Bolivia's main transport routes. The new road helps boost the local economy and improve communications between both cities, as well as those related to freight transport between the interior of the country and the border with Peru.
As regards the characteristics of the road, it is worth mentioning that it has an Andean topography with cold and dry climates characteristic of the highlands and with altitudes ranging from 3,700 m to 4,600 m.
The geometric design of the road allows high speeds, with normally wide curvature radii and rises in accordance therewith, and a gentle crest. The type of terrain is flat with gradients no greater than 4%, undulating in certain sectors.
It has signage in both directions, and surface road marking in the form of hot-applied asphalt concrete, with 3.6 metre lanes and 1.2 metre shoulders.
The main services provided by Prointec during the works were as follows:
• Review and complementation of all the designs of layout, pavement, drainage and structures.
• Supervision and inspection of the construction work (technical assistance, reception of materials, tests, and control and security of the project).
