Comprehensive water supply consultancy project for 46 indigenous communities in Panama
Prointec has developed for the Ministry of Health of Panama, MINSA, a comprehensive water supply consultancy project for 46 indigenous communities in the provinces of Panama Este, Darién and Kuna Yala. The work was carried out as part of the Panama Water and Sanitation Project (PASAP) and financed through World Bank funds.
The project combines the traditional technical aspects of engineering to serve the social needs of these populations to access water, both in terms of quality and quantity.
Prointec carried out the work in two phases. Firstly, a diagnostic phase was undertaken to analyse in depth the existing hydraulic infrastructures, the population's consumption and sanitation conditions and wastewater management methods. Later, in a second phase, the supply and sanitation systems were designed with the improvements proposed and with a technological level that could be assumed by the communities so that the populations themselves could manage the water with the resources they have and in an efficient and sustainable way within their social context.
