Fourth bridge over the Panama Canal

Pre-project for the construction of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal

Prointec has carried out the pre-project for building the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal. The work consists of developing alternatives to the preliminary design of the new infrastructure, the approach viaducts and the access roads. Prointec carried out this project as part of a French, Irish and Spanish consortium.

The new bridge will benefit over one million residents on both sides of the canal and improve the conditions in the communications network in terms of distance, time, safety and convenience.

After analysing various options, the viaduct finally defined at the pre-project level consists of a symmetrical cable-stayed bridge with a total length of 1,118 m, a central section of 540 m and side sections of 289 m, with towers of between 94 and 65 m. The main road, which connects with the existing road system, has a length of 6,890 m and comprises a section of dual carriageway with three lanes in each direction.
